2019 BVC Junior Championships venues announced

2019 BVC Junior Championships venues announced

BENDIGO Basketball Association and Greater Shepparton Basketball Association have earned hosting rights for the four BVC Country Championships held in 2019.

Bendigo Stadium will host three of the four championships next year with Under-12, Under-16/Under-18 Division 1 & 2 and Under-16/Under-18 Division 3 & 4 events slated to be held at the recently renovated facility.

The $23-million Bendigo Stadium redevelopment, expanding the venue to 10 courts including a 4,000-person show-court, makes the international-calibre facility the ideal choice for multiple championships.

“Bendigo Stadium is a world-class facility and the extra three courts will be a great addition to each event,” Competition Coordinator Sammy Cartwright said. “We’re extremely excited about the prospect of holding an entire Championships event under one roof, which will occur at the Under 16/Under 18 Division 1 & 2 Championships.”

Greater Shepparton Basketball Association was awarded the hosting rights to the Under-14 Country Championships following on from its great work in hosting the event in 2015 and 2016 as well as its successful hosting of the Shepparton Show Me Tournament and the upcoming Basketball Australia Under-14 Club Championships.

“Shepparton has been a great host of recent BVC events and we’re thrilled to announce it will host a Country Championships event in 2019,” Basketball Victoria Country General Manager David Huxtable said.

“For Shepparton to continually look to attract events to the Sports Stadium, serious consideration needs to be given to updating the ageing facilities and adding additional courts,”  he said.

“When you look at what regional cities, such as Bendigo, Ballarat and Traralgon are doing, Shepparton will be left behind in this space.”

Basketball Victoria Country and its Events Panel would like to thank our associations which applied to host the championships. Entries for all 2019 Country Championship events will open from 7 August 2018.
