MUVJBL Round 17
Round 17 of MUVJBL had a mix of up and downs for the Junior Braves, 2 teams had wins, 1 team had a draw and the other 2 teams unfortunately lost. 4 of our 5 teams are still in finals contentions with 1 last game in the regular season left for the VJL teams and 2 games left for our VC teams.
Under 14 Girls
The Under 14 Girls have cemented their place in the finals with a big win at home against 3rd placed Bulleen 2. Ronell Masiboy had a great game with 11 points, Zoe Aldridge finished the game with 8 points and Kaleah contributed 2 three pointers to the match. The Junior Braves side come up against Latrobe City, if results go their way they may be able to finish in 3rd spot.
Under 16 Girls
The Under 16 Girls made it three wins in a row when they defeated Nunawading 2 on Friday night 61 to 40. Piper Dunlop was on fire and scored a season high 28 points while Meg McCarthy scored 11 points of her own. The Junior Braves side jump up four places and into 4th place in just one week, with two regular season games to go the Girls have hit great form and will hopefully be able to take that form into finals.
Under 14 Boys
The Under 14 Boys had their first draw of the season against Geelong on Friday night, the boys outscored Geelong by 1 point in the last quarter to tie the match. Patrick Byrne top scored for the match with 11 points and all Lachlan Sommerville, Malik Gordon and Josiah Pattinson finished with 8 points each. The Junior Braves side come up against 9th place Diamond Valley and will look to finish the regular season strong.
Under 16 Boys
The Under 16 Boys couldn’t make it 2 wins in a row losing out to the current 1st placed Bulleen at their new Stadium. Dylan McCauley top scored for the Junior Braves with 17 points, Dyson chipped in with 11 points and both Xavier Cole and Lachlan O’Brien finished with 9 points each. The Under 16 Boys face off against 7th place Keilor, a win in this game will secure a finals place with one more game to go.
Under 18 Boys
The Under 18 Boys just lost out to Pakenham at Dandenong last Friday, the boys pushed their opposition until the end with the final score being 44 to 38. William “Billy” Smythe had another outstanding game scoring a season high of 23 points and Caleb Connick finished on 8 points. The Junior Braves side will play their last VJBL game for the 2017/18 season against 2nd placed Keilor 2.
